How To Shoot Close-Ups

My father wants to shoot close-ups of people's eyes (and I'd like to shoot insects), but it appears to be impossible with our current equipment (Epson PhotoPC 750Z). The picture is blurry and lacks detail.

What kind of equipment would you recommend to achieve this?

Thanks a lot!

I'm not familiar with the equipment you listed, so I'm not sure if you are referring to the camera or the printer as the cause of your problem. I am definitely still an amatuer, but I am drawn to the close-ups, as you are. For my camera I use a Sony DSC-F505 Digital with a Carl Zeiss lens, and I primarily use an HP Officejet G85 for printing. The DSC-F505 has Optical Zoom, 10x Precision Digital Zoom, and awesome MACRO capabilities. I am especially fond of the Macro mode which allows me to position the camera within 1 inch of my subject, and WOW the detail you can get when you are up this close to a flower or an insect. I also use the Zoom functionality, but for the best lighting effects and detail capture, Macro can't be beat.

I'm attaching a few examples of what I have done. I'm really hooked on close-ups so examples are easy to come by in my collection.
