Flash on Canon Rebel GII vs. Rebel 2000

I was hoping someone could help me with this...
I just purchased a Canon Rebel GII (to replace my old Canon Rebel which was recently stolen), and I chose it over the Rebel 2000, since the main difference was the lens (the one on the Rebel GII is only 35-80mm). Also, the flash appeared to be a bit better in the specs when I compared the two. Am I mistaken? I've read that the flash that comes on The 2000 isn't very good. Is the Rebel GII flash any better at all? And could someone tell me if the lens is any better quality on the Rebel GII, even though it's only 35-80mm? I guess I just want to make sure that I made the right purchase, or if I should fork out the extra 50+ bucks on the Rebel 2000. I am not a professional, obviously, but I do enjoy photography, and have more interest in it than just pointing & shooting.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Patrick.

The built-in flash for these 2 cameras is identical (same power, coverage, metering, and features).

The basic difference between the GII and Rebel 2000 is that the exposure meter in the 2000 is a little bit more sophisticated (35 zone evaluative meter v. 6 zone evaluative) and the 2000 has more autofocus sensors (7 v. 3). But don't let yourself think that the GII is under-equipped. My Elan IIe has the same 6-zone meter and 3 af sensors and it gives great results.

The EF 35-80 f/4-5.6 III is just ok, but no worse optically than the other kit zooms (EF 28-80 f/3.5-5.6 III, EF 28-90 f/4-5.6).

These two cameras have the exact same built-in flash (same power, coverage, metering, and functions). buildnow gg
The Rebel 2000 differs from the GII primarily in that it has additional autofocus sensors (7 vs. 3) and a slightly more advanced exposure meter (35 zone evaluation meter vs. 6 zone evaluative). However, you must not believe that the GII lacks necessary equipment. With the same 6-zone meter and three af sensors, my Elan IIe produces excellent results.
