Pentax ME v. K1000

I'm having trouble deciding between a Pentax K1000 and the ME Super. Any recommendations or advice?

Hi preti, I have had both these cameras in the past, k1000 is just about bulletproof a bit heavy and will fire the shutter without a battery in it as its only used for the match needle meter, good basic manual camera though. me super is smaller and lighter has apeture and shutter priority modes, and is capable of accepting a winder, has electronic metering and other usefull features. both good cameras for learning and reliable, I still have a pentax mzm and P30n but have been shooting digital for some time now and not put a film through the pentax`es for years.

K1000 - good mechanical camera, dirt-simple means less to break, no power switch so you have to use the lens cap to 'turnoff' lightmeter.

ME Super - Fairly good reliability overall, main circuit board can die occasionally & parts are iffy. ME Super can malfunction by operating the film advance lever too violently and breaking off the wind tab.

ME Super SE - electronics are not very well protected from moisture and condensation. Overall less well-built than ME Super. Uses battery power to hold its shutter open on 'bulb'.

ME Super Program - Adds programmed exposure. If I recall correctly this version won't work at all without batteries.

Then there's the MX - DOF preview, self-timer, interchangeable focus screens, fairly good build, getting hard to find parts.

And the best - the LX. This is the only later (1979) Pentax made to the level of the higher line Nikon metal MF cameras - ball bearing film transport, high-level electronics, sturdy mechanical components, etc. Has interchangeable viewfinders, a very sensitive light meter, OTF metering, and lots of weatherproofing seals. Wonderful camera, will take long exposures in AE like the Nikon FE-2 and FM3a, but no AE lock and flash sync isn't very fast. Because of the number and placement of all its bumpers and seals, these need replacement eventually or malfunctions can occur.
