Photography Question

Sigma ef-430

Ive recently come across an EF-430 speedlight (for canon). I have a eos3000 and am looking for other peoples feedback and suitability of the EF-430. I'm fairly new to photography so I would like to have equipment that will still be effective as my skill level (and knowledge) grows. Thanks, Steve

There were 2 versions - the ST had more limited functions (standard TTL only) than the Super which had E-TTL emulation and enabled FP high-speed sync on EOS cameras with those capabilities.

The EOS 3000 does not support E-TTL or FP-sync so an ST would be fine with it. However, if you have an EOS 3000N or 3000V, the Super would be preferred since these cameras can utilize the more advanced features. If you have any intention of moving to the EOS digital models, then the Sigma EF-430 ST and Super should be avoided altogether. The ST cannot emulate E-TTL as required by the DSLRs, and there have been some reported incompatibilities between the Super and EOS DSLRs. Sigma's current model EF-500 DG Super is ok.
