The lens by itself dosen't have the same magnification as other brands of a close focal length. Like nikon's 60mm. But it's a good lens, and if you add Canon's life sized converter to it, that will give you life size magnification. But it's gives you macro plus the regular 50mm perspective, which I've always like and felt it's a mistakely over looked focal length for just about any kind of picture taking.
