What flash should I buy for weddings? Hi Everyone! I'm hopping that someone can point me in the right direction. I am a newbie wedding photogher (have done three so far). I have a wedding in June and I want to upgrade my flash. I have been using an on camera flash which has barely done the job. I was hopping that someone could suggest a good flash, that I can use for portraits, as well as through the whole day. I have a Nikon N65 film camera, autofocus. My teacher suggested Metz, but don't have a clue on which one to buy. However, I'm open to any brand. I've beening looking around Ebay, and hope to buy one second hand. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! - Autumn

Autumn, the Nikon's N65 recommended Speedlight flashes include the SB-50DX, the pricey SB-800DX,though there are SUBSTITUTE brands recommended i.e. Sigma EF-500 ST,Vivitar's 850 AF, or Sunpak's PZ-5000AF. Just make sure your flash is for the Autofocus ( AF ) camera and inquire if they can be used in Manual mode.

I use Metz and I really like it. I suggest the 44-AFN. It's a little pricy but has plenty of power. Get a mini softbox for it when you buy. The softbox will cut down on the light transmission so you will need plenty of light to overcome this. The softbox will diffuse the flash and cut down on hot spots.

The sigma ef-500 super is a great place to start.....less than $200 and really great for the money. Make sure to buy diffuser too!
