How to eliminate reflection on object taken

What's the best way to prevent a streak of light appearing in the picture of an object taken indoor and how to ensure that the words on the object taken are aligned and not distorted.

If the light is reflected from an object, we have to position ourself, the object or the light so that it does not reflect. Always use a lens shade. Camera makers have shortchanged us in this regard; point'n shoots rarely even have threads to attach a shade. If you're using an SLR, get a shade for that lens.

The words are distorted because the lens distorts them. Keep things you don't want distorted away from the edges of the frame. Many otherwise great lenses will show distortion near the frame edges.
