lenses I want to buy a telephoto lens so that I can photograph my husband who surfs. I want to shoot from the shore. I want to buy a telephoto lens, but not sure what size I need. do I need a 500mm or 400mm, etc... heres my question: what is the maginification of the 500mm? 400? etc... i hope this question isn't too wierd.

If I remember correctly, a general rule of thumb for 35mm cameras is that each 50mm of focal length = 1x power, so 400mm gives a view similar to 8x binoculars, 500mm ~ 10x.
