Photography Question

buying a camera

I have a pentax k 1000 camera that I just love....the only thing I would like different is a auto focus to be on it. I have been looking at the pentax zx-m but no where does it say it is an auto focus camera even though the auto focus lenses can be put on it. Does that mean if you have an auto focus lens you can use it manually on it or is it an auto focus camera? Can anyone tell me if there is a camera like the k1000 that is auto focus? Thanks!

  See http://www.pentax.com/products/cameras/
for the current line of Pentax SLRs. All of the PZ-, MZ-, and ZX- models are autofocus except the ZX-M (M=manual). The ZX-M is autowinding and autoexposure, but manual focus only.

The Pentax K lens mount is very versatile, autofocus lenses can be mounted and used on manual focus bodies (without AF of course) and vice versa. Depending on the combination you may or may not be able to meter or change the aperture.
See

and

for a summary of the differences between the K, Kf, Ka, Kaf, and Kaf2 lenses/cameras.

Thanks Jon. That was what I thought . I really would like to stick to the Pentax because I have so many manual lenses. I would like to be able to use them when I want and still have a auto focus to fall back on. I'll check out those sites you mentioned!

  Cathy,

I was hesitiant to leave manual focus but slowly made the change. I used a Pentax LX as my main camera from 1983 until late 2001. I also had a Super Program A. I originally purchased the ZX-5N in 2000 as a 2nd camera. I liked its verstility and ease of use. THe things I liked most are DX Coding, exposure modes, Bracketing, buit-in flash, on camera flash versatility. , and film advance. Of course, the autofocus is great as my eye sight just isn't as god as used to be. I used my LX less and less but IT WAS A GREAT CAMERA.

I had no problem using my manual focus lenses with the autofocus bodies.

However, I should mention that I am trying use non-programmed mode as much as possible. I aslo occasionaly use manual focus.
I have been using Pentax equipment since 1964.
