I'm not sure how this whole system works. I played around with BP in 2014 for 2 months and then quit and just picked it back up. I happened to go to my profile today and every photo I uploaded in Jan has an editor's pick on it. I know I read that means they go to the next level of judging but still trying to understand the rules, judging and time frame. I really thought I would receive emails.

Hi Georgia, I'll try to explain the system to you. However, as you may deduce from some of the comments, it does change a bit now and again. So an EP is given if a judge feels a photo meets a level that warrants it. There are no public lists of what that criteria is. No email is sent if a photo has been selected for the EP. Then other private rounds of judging take place until they get to the Staff Favorites round. This is the point where the selected photo gets a new badge and an email is sent to the person announcing the selection as a SF. At this point the judging is public once again. The next round is the finalist round. Again an email is sent out and a new badge is awarded indicating finalist and the finalist photos are posted. The last round is the Winners round. Once again, an email is sent and a winner's badge is given. Many call this the gold round as the badge is gold. These photos are also publicly displayed. The contests are monthly. So one has a month to place photos into that month's contest. EP's can begin immediately and continue for up to the end of the NEXT month. For example, You may enter photos into the Jan contest from the 1st to the 31st. The winners will be announced (almost always) no later than Feb 29. (or 28 depending). The idea is that the process I previously described should produce the winners no later than the last day of the month. Theoretically, you could receive an EP any time within that timeframe. Most of the time they finish the ep round earlier than the end of the month. Some months, we see a second round of EPs. If you follow the various threads about the contests, you will see members reporting results and speculating on what is happening. In any given month, we don't know exactly what will happen, but we watch and thy to deduce. It keeps us on our toes. Hope this helps answer your question.

Thank you so much! So there is no telling when I actually received those EPs (Jan or Feb). So are the entries I uploaded in Jan (i think for the Feb contest), those are the entries that are being judged right now correct?

Georgia, Only you know the answer to that question. When you upload a photo you can immediately enter when you upload. If you selected a contest category that your photo should be entered in with the upload, then you entered as you uploaded and if those uploads took place in Jan. You entered them all in January. If you did all on the same day, then they were all listed as that day's enteries. If when you uploaded you did NOT select a contest category, then your photos simply went to your gallery and were NOT entered. That means, of course, that you have to go back and enter the photos in February. (or when you wish to enter them) You can not upload in Jan. and enter into the February contest at the same time time. You must wait until February to enter into February. The month and day you enter is the month and day you are in the contest. You can Not submit and enter a photo today and have it count for any other time but today. I hope this helps.

Ok... I'm following and I think I worded it wrong. I did upload in Jan and chose a contest at that point. Yes it was Jan contests that are being JUDGED this month since the Jan. contests ended the end of the month. I'm overly tired. I need to sleep for a week.

Georgia, Yes I think you have it. Right now judging may be happening in the Jan contest and in the Feb contest. By the end of Feb. the Jan contest should have concluded and the winners announced. At that point judging will continue in the Feb contest and judging will start in the March contest.

I haven't received one EP for Feb, I usually mange one.. However did you all use that really cool photo uploader?? It has been a few days for me uploading, but Ive had to use the old way because I hated fighting back and forth with the Java notices, sooooo now I can upload simple as pie!!! So pleased and so is my mac!!!

Now that the Feb. contest is the main event, I thought a review of status might be useful. When last I checked (just now) EPs had only been granted through Feb. 2 entries. They may or may not have completed that day's judging and they may or may not do a second round for either of the two days that have been judged. I believe nothing has been judged for entries from the 3rd through the 29th. So if you have no EPs, don't despair, few have been granted, yet. Let the granting begin!!! Good Luck!!

I got one too and did not get an email from Jim. Oh, but I did get a continual stream of eMails from Jim advertising and telling me to do something on the BP site, Most recently, got an eMail from Jim saying he missed me as he has not recently seen me on the BP site. I guess I have become invisible around here. I only got a gold 2nd and a Finalist last month. As for February, I've gotten absolutely nothing yet. Clearly my photo from the 3rd was bypassed, and I do I know they got as far as the 8th. Have they gotten any farther than that? If so, I'm coming up dry, for EP's, and that is kind of strange.

Cindy, I believe the 8th is the last day for Feb EPs. And I don't believe BP is sending out the notifications for "All Time Fav" EPs. You just need to find your gold medals, open them up, and see if they have the new emblem on them. Jim said he's got a lot more to go through so if your Gold doesn't have the new emblem, it might later. The All-time EP emblem does not appear on your gallery, below your thumbnails. At least not yet.

Ken, I have 2 photos in my gallery which have an all time EP emblem, which just recently showed up. My assumption was that before they would go further than that, they would make some kind of announcement. I wasn't sure that they were even done with the EP's yet or not. Also glad to hear that they've only competed through 2/8 as it means so far I've only had one shot overlooked. I did not enter anything else until 2/9. I was starting to think I was getting too old to be a photographer any more!

Cindy, my assumption is that the "All-time" contest will be similar to the monthly contest. We don't get notifications of EPs today; they just show up. And they'll probably have follow-on rounds that cull the number of All-time EPs down to the All-Time Staff Favs, then Finalists, then winners. Again, this is just an assumption. And I would assume we'd get the notification of All-Time Staff Favs. Here's the Contest--EP link.
