Short version: long lens (200 mm or more), tripod, manual setting, exposure is 1/ISO at f/16, focus on infinity, take a test shot and adjust settings. That's a start.

Hope this helps, have fun,

Bojan

I'd chime in at 300mm or more. (300 is my biggest zoom, and I feel it is not remotely long enough for proper, detailed moon captures!)

My longest zoom is a 300mm too and I would love to have at least a 500mm for moon shots. One of the biggest mistakes I made taking my first moon shots was underestimating the power of the light source. A full moon is a bright, very powerful light! lol

For an awesome experience in capturing the moon, attach your camera to a telescope.
