Photography Question

David B. Spooner

Beach wedding

I will be shooting my niece's wedding september 22 on Virginia Beach (weather permitting) at 4pm (don't ask why they chose 4pm..maybe to make the photography even more challenging!
I have plenty of rain sleeves and camera/lens cleaning material to protect both of my cameras.
I plan on using my 85mm/f1.8 lens as primary with a UV lens filter and lens hood.
I'm thinking I'll probably have to underexpose by at least 2 stops...am I headed in the right direction...ANY suggestions/recommendations appreciated!

What makes you think you'll have to under expose?

David, do you live close to Virginia Beach? If so, head out there and get a feel for the lighting, around 4PM. If you shoot in RAW, you'll have better exposure latitude.

Ken, unfortunately we don't live in Virginia, so I have been doing lots of research on shooting in these conditions. I always shoot in RAW and will be renting a hand held light meter to aid in getting proper exposure. Luckily I will also have 2 "practice" days prior to the wedding using camera and Canon Speedlite. Any other suggestions/recommendations appreciated. I shoot a Canon t2si and have a nikon P100 for back up if needed.
