Why is this photo grainy


 
 
I took this photo at sunset late in the fall . . . it was around 4:30. Settings: ISO 200, f/11, 1/90 sec., 70-210mm lens @ 210mm. When I had the photo developed I had the lab put the pictures on a disc. The file size I get off the disc is 397kp and 1818 X 1228. Because I was pretty far when I took the photo I had to crop quite a bit off the bottom making it a panoramic. I think the final result is pretty good. However I've gotten comments that it's grainy (or has noise). I'm wondering what is causing the noise. I'm uploading both the original and my edited version. I want to enter it in a local contest. I'm wondering if getting a better scan of the negative would do the trick . . or if there's more to it?

Gregory LaGrange's Gallery 		  If you only got a scan of the negative and not any prints from the negative that show grain, 397kp is very small for a negative scan. You might be getting compression artifacts and a better scan may indeed give a better image.

Teresa H. Hunt 		  Thank you both for you advice. I'm planning on trying a better scan. I also did some adjustments in photoshop. Mostly with saturation. Would that also cause noise?
