Why does BP have Categories? Why does BP have categories? I saw finalist in the catch all that were macro flowers. I saw a 2nd place winner that was a flower with a flood filter, should that not have been in DD category? I see many portraits with “Alien Eyes” not real and not meant to look real just Photo Shop creations, should that not be in the DD category? I know if I had lost out to a flood filter in the Flower category I would have been a little angry with BP. I could go on and on about winners and finalists that were in the wrong category but BP still put them as winners. Well that is just my 2 cents worth.

My question was why do they have them if they do not stick to them. Not why do they have them. Thanks

Hi Bill, Thanks for the followup. As pointed out in the categorizing page, many pics can fit into more than one category. Also, digitally altered pics are allowed in all categories, as long as the subject matter fits. Kerry

From the category page; Note on Digital Manipulation Although digitally manipulated entries are allowed, we ask that you note the digital techniques used to create the picture in the description of your photo. The judges do not discriminate against digital images but do appreciate when the contestant openly shares that such digital editing has occurred. WHY ARE DIGITALLY ALTERED EYES ON PEOPLE CATEGORIES ALLOWED IF THEY DO NOT FOLLOW THIS RULE STATED ABOVE? THE SAME WITH USING FLOOD FILTERS IN FLOWER CATERGORIES?

I am just wanting to fully understand the diffrence between what should go into the Digital Darkroom category and what is acceptable in other categories. Thanks so much for your feedback Kerry, Bill

Here's the section at the bottom of the page (just above the section you quoted), which might clarify things:

I am with Bill on this subject. How can one possibly compete while adhering to the suggested rules if the judges are not adhering to thier criteria. When does a portrait become a digital darkroom image? I would like to understand this as well. There seems to be a lack of clarity here.

Hi Allen, Thanks for your interest in the free contest too! Please check out the entire "how to categorize" page - it points out that many pics can qualify for more than one category. Also, as the above section shows, digitally altered images aren't limited to the Digital Darkroom category. Hope this helps!

Hi Kerry, Thanks for responding. This seems to be very generic. I realize this is overkill but it is now theortically possible to enter all flowers in, let's say, "Nature & Landscapes, Animals, Elements of Design, Digital Dakroom, Travel and Place, Flowers and Details & Macro" and win the Grand Prize, anda all the first place winners. I know this is a little out there but it has validty. Thanks again for responding, Allen
