Photography Question

Selling photos online

I just recently purchased my deluxe web site and I love it, however I am leary about selling my photos online because I don;t know much about the process. When selling on my site, am I selling the file or selling prints that I will need to ship? The later would be difficult for me as I am out to sea but selling the file has me cautious because how do I maintain the copyright on the image once I sell the file? Any help will be of great assistance to me because I have had offers.

  Jerald,
Most people sell prints of their photos, while retaining full copyright. Exceptions would be when you sell your images through a stock or microstock agency, or if you sell someone an image for a specific use like on a website or in an ad campaign.

One option you could look into would be to use an online printer like www.mpix.com, and have them ship prints to your customers instead of to you. The shipping charges could get expensive, though, if you are selling one or two prints at a time.

Maybe you could work out something with a friend or relative back home where they could receive shipments from mpix and forward them by mail to your customers. Just a thought.

By the way, a sincere THANK YOU for your service to our country.

Stay safe,
Chris
