A Fungus Among Us
I got some fungus at the mirror/prism in my Zenit 122 screw mount camera. Could you please tell me how it could be cleaned. If it's not clean, does it effect anything? Does it cause wrong focusing or bad photographs. Thanks, Manoj

If it's only in the prism, it wont actually affect picture quality - the mirror moves out of the way in an SLR, and the lens shines light directly on to the film plane. On the other hand, it is annoying, and usually quite cheap to clean. I wouldn't do it myself, because the prism is quite soft, and the mirror is coated on the outside - thus the smallest slip (including dust or wood fibres on your cleaning cloth) will scratch either surface. Bring it to a shop for a quote. Ken.
