Problems Photographing Gold I'm trying to take some jewelry pictures for my girlfriend and have run into a problem of the gold looking a little too light or possibly silvery. My set up is kind of a hillbilly one. A Pentax K-1000 with a Sigma 50mm macro lens. I'm using Fuji Provia 100F slide film. The camera is mounted to a tripod and I'm shooting straight down onto a piece of black velvet. When shooting, I cover myself, the camera and subject all with a white sheet, while outdoors using only bright Arizona sunshine. I'm using no filters of any kind, and suspect this may be my problem. Any advice of any kind would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Kerry, First of all, I'm an amateur myself. Try a polarizer on your lens. I'd also either switch to Velvia or use Kodak film. The Velvia saturates better handling the color of necklace. Kodak picks up yellows and reds better than Fuji also. The gold is closer to those two colors. If that doesn't work I'd go indoors using some soft white light bulbs. Then I'd get some Kodak Tungsten film. The Tungsten film will take care of the low temperature light you'll be using. A polarizer will also be a good idea to cut back on glare on your lens.
