how does the contest work? I know this is probably a dumb question, but the runners up have no chance at being a finalist or winner right?

This contest has no "runners up"...at least none that I'm aware of. Finalist are chosen first, and winners are selected from the finalists.

Actually, I believe there are several different stages in the judging process, cutting the number from 13,000 to several thousand, then down again until the final ones are considered Finalists. Then the winners are selected from the finalists. Where did the term Runners up come from?

is this how it is done every month? and if so how was someone notified on the runner up link? hummm... am really puzzled here now... hope Heather or someone is making rounds around here so they can enlighten us... Jill :)

I'm curious now....I just looked at that "runners up" link, and the last few pages have finalists listed on them. Does this mean they are picking finalists from this list of pictures?

Hi Leesa... first of all the link is not one meant for us to view... there are several stages the contest goes though and the runner up one is just the first stage... that addy isn't given out and am not sure how someone got it... the judges use that area to start narrowing down their picks... and if you did look at the ones already given finalist you will note they are from past months hun... maybe not cleared out from past times... but really what it comes down to is that addy isn't meant for us at all... once they have gone though all the stages of the judging they will post the finalist page to be viewed to the finalists... is to bad that someone I assume clicked it by mistake and then gave it out to others... contest finalist will be notified by email and the winners will be posted sometime on or after the 15th... just sit tight it will be posted... I didnt even know there was such a thing as "runner -ups"... I looked thru & saw I had two photos in there.... this gives me hope that I was in the top 5000! Maybe someday I will have one in the finals!! Kinda made my day & gave me hope not to give up! Angie :)
