Solar Prominences During Totality
“Solar Prominences During Totality” is the title for this image which is a crop from a photo taken during the Solar Eclipse at Newport, Vermont, on Monday, April 8th, 2024, about 3:30 in the afternoon (EDT).
In the image, the moon is just starting to exit Totality, and one begins to get a glimpse of prominences, or gas filaments anchored to the sun, to the bottom right during the Solar Eclipse, appearing pinkish in color due to being about 4,000 degrees Kelvin because they are further out in space compared to the sun’s 6,000 degrees Kelvin Chromosphere.
Entered in the Details category (April 2024).
