bees love lavender ...and in a mass planting they go all day long

Pretty nice capture, Kristin. Interesting POV -- straight on -- though I might have preferred one from a little higher.

If you have sharpness in the original image to support it, you might try 4:5 crop from a little ways to the right of the bottom left corner to somewhere below the brightest of the lavender along the top (or clone out some of the bright if you need the headroom. Alternatively, I think a a vertical crop might work well too.

Also, see if you can bring down the brightness (burn) and get a little more detail in the flower the bee is landing on and the petals along the bottom border.

Glad to see you back Kristin. Missed you. Will be a bit closer to you in early August,in Eastern Washington. One of these days will make up to your part of the country.

Great motion blur on that Bee, Kristin. I agree with Stephen on the crop and burning the flower and petals along the bottom. I like the vertical blur against the horizontal wings. Nicely captured!

Steven...when you say a 4:5 crop do you mean 4"x5'?

Sort of, Kristin, I do, except I'm not suggesting a physical size. I tend to include the shape of the image as a compositional concept along with other such concepts like Rule of Thirds, leading lines, and the size relationships of elements within the image.

But when you say 4" x 5", do you really mean that? Or do you mean something that has the right shape to end up printing at 8" x10", a much more standard print size than 4x5.

Your new crop isn't at all what I was suggesting, but its very good. And you certainly had the required sharpness in the image. Impressive.

Awesome image Kristin! Isn't it fun when you actually get the shot before the thing flies away!? I was trying to get a butterfly in Yellowstone yesterday and just missed the shot I was going for. In any case, I didn't mind your original crop, only I might have taken a bit off the top and right... but I like the second crop too!

Nice detail on this bee! Can you bring down the brightness of the flower as suggested above? I do like the sharpness and detail of the bee, along with the blurred wings. Nice job!
