Person in a Scenic Picture

Water is horizontal, man-made verticals are vertical. Doesn't this look better?

This one is better. The people are smaller than quarter-sized (better than too big). The scene is now definitely the subject. I want to look the direction they're looking, so this draws me into the scene too. The tree looks better with its trunk showing, and it's nicely sidelit to show off the texture in the bark. Your people are well-placed on a third sweet spot. You've got the right idea about including people in a scene. Good job.

The line of houses along the river is tilted way up in both shots. Water rests horizontally, so it looks strange to be tilted. Be aware of tilts when you're taking the picture, especially tilted horizons and water lines. In this case, you also have the wall, which confused things even more. Try to keep your camera back straight up and down when shooting architecture to keep the verticals straight up and down.
