Death Valley Race Track

BetterPhoto.com Photo Contest FIRST PLACE Winner   Moonbeam
Moonbeam
"Moonbeam" was an experimental photographic project I tried in the remote Death Valley Racetrack are. The first image was a still long exposure which included the tent with an LED light inside, the second was an image of about the same exposure time simply moving the camera immediately before shutter starts (made several attempts to get it right and smooth). I waited until the moon was in this position for this version. It was in photoshop that I fused the moving image on top of the still. It is fun and interesting to note that the streak is not the path of the moon, rather the path of the moon across the sensor of the camera. I have a couple more images from this group, so stay tuned to see how they turned out.

A WoW for Me! I Love the contrast of silohuette vs overly bright light coming from the top of mountain...sultry Blue vs Black Silohuette Adds Impact.. Excellent!

This is stunning, Craig. How did you create or capture the light streak effect? Love the look.

The first image was a still long exposure which included the tent with an LED light inside, the second was an image of about the same exposure time simply moving the camera immediately after shutter starts (made several attempts to get it right and smooth). I waited until the moon was in this position for this version. It was in photoshop that I layered the moving image on top of the still and allowed only the bright part of the moving image to be visible (lighten blend). It is fun and interesting to note that the streak is not the path of the moon, rather the path of the moon across the sensor of the camera. I have a couple more images from this group, so stay tuned to see how they turned out.
