The background is a blue green painted background with some highlights. It can be black (no background light) or as you see it, or even brighter. All depends on how you use the background light. I was taught to cover the head of an old Vivitar 283 with a Handkerchief to distribute and soften the light, and double it to reduce more. Try it it works too. Get an used strobe and a light slave. The main thing is to have a light on the main (actual light bulb lit) so see the pattern on the face of subject. then experience will work. a 2X2 Reflectasol is forgiving for placement. They have them in Black/silver. The black is good as a GOBO too to block light for a properly lit profile.
