La Jolla Backdrop
I began my passion for photography back in 1983. I bought my first camera, a Nikon EM, as a birthday gift for myself. I was currently serving aboard the USS Mullinix DD 940 homebased out of Charleston, SC. As I began to use the camera, I found that there were a lot features available that would allow me to try things beyound the automatic mode. Others saw my work and I was asked to serve as the ship's photographer which I gladly accepted. I fulfilled that role at various other commands and graduated to the Nikon FE2 in which I used up to my retirement from the US Navy in the year 2000. I purchased my first digital, a Nikon D50, in 2006 and have since upgraded to the Nikon D300. I find photography as a medium to makeup for my shortcomings when it comes to the brush, the pencil and charcoal that physical artist excel at doing. I like digital because it replaces the expensive mistakes made when using film. Coupled with the SB900, SB800 and the SB600, I think that the door to possibilities is wide open.
