I enjoy nature photography most of all, and favorite places are the Southwest, Colorado Rockies, and the Sierra Nevada. I also enjoy shooting coastal areas. I think shooting cities at night is great fun and provides opportunity for some creative and colorful images. I love flowers and they are a favorite subject. I like to experiment, try to see and photograph the ordinary in a fresh way. I hope you enjoy my images, and I'd love to hear your responses. I have so enjoyed viewing others' galleries and I look forward to sharing and exchanging ideas.

Bio

I have been interested in photography since saving my allowance and buying a Kodak Brownie when I was 8 years old. But I didn't get my first 'real' camera-- an SLR-- until 6 years ago, when I decided it was time to get more serious about something I'd always loved. Outdoor and nature photography is my main photographic interest. I'm an avid bicyclist, and I often carry my camera with me when I ride. In fact, three of my passions-- photography, cycling, and travel-- blend together very nicely. I often do multi-day bike tours with groups, and my camera is always with me; on the bike, in a hip pack with an extra lense or two; once we get to the day's destination, the rest of my photo gear is waiting in the van that transports everyone's gear. A bike and a camera work well together--on a bike, you can stop more quickly and in places where there wouldn't be room to park a car. And traveling by bike is a great icebreaker and conversation starter, which in turn leads to people being more willing to be photographed, tips about good locations, and, most importantly, a much richer travel experience because you really connect with people, and therefore the place, in an intimate way.

My gear is still fairly simple. I'm still shooting with the same camera I bought 6 years ago-- a canon rebel 2000. I've accumulated several lenses and other assorted accessaries from ebay. In the past few months I've upgraded my computer, added a better scanner and printer, and have been learning to use photoshop elements. I also recently added my first digital camera, a canon G5. I'm not ready to give up film, but I am enjoying the unique advantages and instant gratification of shooting digitally.

This year, my goal is to begin to market my work at art fairs and online.

What am I doing when I'm not out shooting or on my bike? I live with two dogs, an elderly springer spaniel and a lab mix "pound pup', and a tortoise-shell calico cat. I enjoy reading about a wide variety of subject, both fiction and nonfiction. And music is yet another passion, both listening and playing the guitar.
