Bio

As owner of Hannah's Eyes Photography, Jill Garl has always been involved with the “art world” in one form or another. From painting fairies on the walls in her daughter Hannah’s bedroom, to hand painting furniture, art has always been a constant passion. After working in the art department in advertising for over 20 years, Jill went back to school to learn interior design and photography.
After graduating from college in 2000, Jill became interested in photography. Working with film and producing all of her own black and white prints in a darkroom in the basement, Jill became fascinated with photography and all that went with it. After years of posing for her mom and hanging out in the darkroom, Hannah, Jill’s youngest daughter of 3, became her inspiration to open up a portrait studio and name it Hannah’s Eyes Photography.

Jill’s portrait studio has become very successful in its ten years of being in business. Being able to do what she loves, Jill says “I feel so blessed to be photographing so many wonderful faces, documenting and freezing memories and moments for families, especially the children.” Jill feels “Knowing that these photographs will ultimately become family heirlooms is an awesome feeling and I am honored to be the photographer chosen to photograph these memories”.
In 2004 Jill discovering the Corel Painter program. She quickly realized that she could combine her love of photography and her artwork into one. The potential for creating a family heirloom was even greater. It was a perfect fit. After 2 years of learning and experimenting with Painter, Jill decided to share her excitement with others and explore another love she has always had, teaching.
Painting with Jill Garl, an online Corel Painter course to learn to create painted portraits was created in 2006. Her classes have been filling up weeks in advance ever since. Students from all over the world have taken Jill’s course and continue to stay in touch with her and other students in a forum created just for them. Along with the Painting with Jill Garl course, Jill has also been an instructor for DAA (Digital Art Academy) and has created three DVD’s on how to paint animals, flowers and Charcoal Drawings.
As a regular contributor to Corel Painter Magazine, Jill has produced many tutorials as well as having her artwork featured for the cover of the Corel Painter magazine, bookazine and DVD. Digital Photo Pro has also chosen Jill to interview for an article published in May 2008 entitled “An Artist Within”.
Jill is always learning and experimenting with new ways to create her works of art as well as to teach and inspire others.
