Since joining PhotoGroup-101, I'm learning and capturing more than I had before and needed additional space without removing other images and memories at my Bunny Snow gallery. (Google: Bunny Snow, BetterPhoto, gallery).
My mainstay is the Canon EOS 50D, with my first digital camera, the 20D, as backup, and a variety of Canon lenses. I use a Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod with a medium size RRS ballhead and L bracket to ease changes from vertical to horizontal.
My lighting equipment is now portable. Black or white foam core aids in absorbing or bouncing light when capturing flowers using natural lighting. I also use a Canon 580EX, 420EX, or MR-14EX TTL Macro Ring Lite flash equipment depending upon the situation; and a Better Beamer on the 580EX to throw the light to bathing birds.
I am addicted to taking courses and learning with photographers around the world at BetterPhoto.com. The courses taken include:
The Canon EOS 20D (my first digital camera); Photoshop 101: The Photoshop Essentials Primer; Mastering Your Canon Flash; Creative Close-ups; Camera Raw: From Capture to Finished Photo; Correct and Enhance Your Images; Photoshop: Creative Techniques; Creating Visual Impact; Basic Masks In Photoshop; and Photoshop Toolbox I: Exposure and Color.
I've grown photographically since the days of studying photography in college during the early 1960's with totally manual equipment, a hand held light meter, and a black and white chemical darkroom.
There was one thing very positive about the non-digital days of yesteryear. Without digital photography, I either sent off color images for printing, or processed my own black and white. This meant that I was standing or out capturing more images rather than sitting for long hours at a computer correcting or creating in Photoshop.
The long hours sitting at a computer, may have increased my osteoporosis as after recovering from a hip fracture and total hip replacement, and receiving a total knee replacement in 2007. Exercise was physical therapy three days a week and Pilates twice weekly.
I learned a great deal about more composition and especially Photoshop at BetterPhoto.com, but did not get enough physical exercise on hard surfaces because I could not walk well with a cane and carry a camera and tripod.
Because of my relative inactivity, in between partial tears in my rotator cuff, I fractured my spine in 2012 and 2013, and fractured my pelvis in 2013. Just when I was getting strong enough to carry a camera, more injuries occurred. Now, photography is a memory, and exercise is nearly constant while I try and heal and not fall or break anything else.
Getting older sucks. I don't regret learning photoshop, but now cannot stay on the computer long enough to remember what I was last taught due to past injuries, which need weight bearing exercise. Swimming and cycling is not enough.
Hope anyone who reads this, takes heed of their own health and stays strong with weight bearing exercise continually, rather than spending long hours doing photoshop in a sitting position.
