My main subjects are birds and other wildlife, although I enjoy looking for good landscape and macro opportunities. I am clearly not a portrait photographer, although not by choice, it is just a lack of subjects. These photographs represent a subset of my Flickr photostream @ http://www.flickr.com/photos/rparsons

Bio

My photography roots begin when I was 19 years old and purchased a Canon EOS Rebel for fun. I loved the camera and took a couple rolls of pictures, but ended up returning it because I felt guilty about spending that much money ($300 at the time) on a camera that I didn’t think would get much use. A few years later (don’t remember exactly when), I decided to buy the same camera again and felt much better about the purchase. I used it mainly for point-and-shoot over the years and didn’t do anything serious.

My wife, being very much into wildlife, introduced me to the idea of birding. I coupled this with my newly purchased Canon EOS 20D (upgraded to a 30D, then later to a 1Ds-Mark II), and was hooked instantly and have focused on nature/wildlife/birds since then.

Aside from birds, I have tried to expand my skills by focusing on landscapes and other subjects. I have not been able to travel much lately, so my photographs are usually constrained by how far I can drive during the weekend.

Here's what I carry:

- Canon 1Ds Mark III
- Canon 1Ds Mark II
- Canon EOS 30D
- Canon 500mm f/4 IS
- Canon 300mm f/4 IS
- Canon 70-200mm f/4
- Canon 24-105mm f/4 IS
- Canon 180mm f/4 IS (macro)
- Canon 1.4x extender
- Canon 2x extender
- Gitzo GT-3540L tripod
- Wimberely II tripod head
- Really Right Stuff BH-55 LR ball head
- Markins Q-Ball Q3 Emille
