In August '06, we moved to "up state" NY (yeah almost to the middle, but over near CT). Spent first 46yrs in N & E TX. Then one year in Portland, OR was more than enough.

My parents surprised me with a camera in July! "At least you'll have something to fill in the gap until you can afford a real one in about a year." From my dad's lips to God's ears!

I still usually only critique composition. Drop a note if you want my opinion.

Many photographers watch the Critique Forum. Always, for best results, submit your photo in the Forum & ask for specific info.

Anything else you might want to know is on my web site.

Enjoy, Have fun,

My Blog: Pam Plays Photographer
My Notes on how to add a second photo to a BetterPhoto discussion.

About Me: I am 48. For the last three years I have lived in east Texas, USA, right on the shore of a lake. It's GREAT! I can finally watch the sun set without dodging man's skyline!

I never owned a camera until December of 2001. Why should I? everyone else in the family took care of the expense of life-documentation.

THEN I married a brilliant man who knew I needed a digital camera ... just because he watched me play with a really cheap one for a weekend.

THEN people started telling me I should be selling my snapshots.

Let me fill you in a bit (as a good Texan story-teller always will). I come from a family of shutterbugs and artists and early technology adapters (ie my grandfather was one of the first diesel engine mechanics for 18-wheel trucks).

When the 16 of us, out of three generations, gather together, there are at least two "real" 35mm cameras, five higher-end digitals, and at least four cell phone cameras, and one videocam. Basically anyone not holding a camera either married into the family or is still young and without funds to get "a decent" camera.

And at least one person (usually two) will show off their latest shots from a trip or we'll see one of my dad's DVD's. We are an extremely well-documented family.

I use to beg my father to sell his photographs. He always dismissed me with "oh, this is not real photography" (geeze it runs in the family!) We gave him one of our second-hand pc's 3 yrs ago ... he outgrew it in about 9 months ... thankfully it died and so he upgraded ... now people beg him (at 69yrs old) to put together DVD's of weddings and events. No, he'd never worked with a (windows-based) computer before.

I had successfully convinced myself that I was one of the techno-geeks (and I was/ am/ all ways will be) ... but not an artist and not a writer and not a photographer.

So, I was not listening to the people talking about how great my photos were because my photos were just snapshots and I "know" what real photography is.

Yeah well my husband didn't believe any of it ... he's been pestering me for three years to take my writing and photography seriously. Finally, I was beginning to at least consider it. And just to speed up my consideration of the matter, God's taken away the most time-consuming demands (my children actually grew up AND left the nest and I no longer have a J-O-B working for someone else and my new home is about 7ft wide and 18ft long).

The short version summary ... at 48 I get an opportunity to re-invent who I am and what I do ... so I'm here ... practicing taking my photography seriously.

So have fun!

PS since I'm "not" a writer, my forum posts are generally longer than others because I can't keep the words to a minimum unless I sit and WORK at keeping it short. It's faster for me to write more than less ... so don't worry ... it's me, not you ;) ... I'm just warning you here and now because ... in the past ... I know you'll find this amazing ... but in other forums ... people have actually worried about my long posts.
