I love the vibrant colors and the diagonal comp on this Joan. #1246117

I echo Jeff's comments Joan and I like this shot.

If you have an opportunity to shoot a scene like this again, try it using your polarizer filter. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. #8439940

Thanks Jeff and Dale.... the desert has really come alive! It is very vibrant and lush (for a desert that is). I can and will re-shoot this using a polarizer, I think we are going back around the end of the week. I had been using a polarizer earlier in the day, but don't have one to fit the lens I used to take this shot, unfortunately! #8440070

A little duct tape should fix that Joan. . .

This is the time of year that I miss living in the desert the most. #8440074

LOL... Duct Tape indeed....! Might work if my filter was bigger than my lens, but in this case it was smaller!! It really has gotten prettier, I was getting rather bored with green, brown and blue (or grey whatever the day happened to bring). #8440174

In a pinch, just hold your polarized sunglasses up in front of the lens. I've done that many times. #8440693

Joan E. Hoffman March 08, 2010

Interesting.... would never have thought of that! How do you know if they are polarized? We have a few pairs of serengeti's (free ones - give-aways from a place I worked!) so would assume they would be... however they are smaller than my cp filter.. polarizer is 52mm the lens I had on is 65 (?) or something! #8440716

Dale Hardin March 08, 2010

when you do it, look through the viewfinder, rotate them and see if it improves the image. If it does, they are polarized. #8440852

I love the diagonal POV here, it really makes the image. The colors are wonderful!

I don't have a polarizer filter. I've thought of using my sunglasses, but didn't know if that would work. To bad those sunglasses broke. My new ones have a rose colored tint to them. Really makes the red in the landscape pop! :) #8440871

LOL... I have a bit of macular degeneration, which means I should wear sunglasses even in the dark (kidding) however, they (like regular glasses, which I need and have faithfully NOT worn since I was in grade school) make me feel like I am in prison.... besides.... I like the world to look as it is... not coloured yellow, blue... or even ROSE! :)) #8441525

LOL... shoot that just brought to mind two stories... one from an optometrist, after trying vainly for many minutes trying to read my vision, angrily said... you don't know HOW to see (echoed, unfortunately by everyone from my mother, father and Randy)... to the lady at the drivers license place, who said a little prayer of thanks that SHE wasn't on the road when I went home to get my glasses so I could read past the first line on the eyechart. (In my defense, she tested my BAD eye first... which is really bad... however the other eye I have near perfect vision... guess it's just a bit lopsided LOL! #8441530

Joan, I too have had bad eye sight since grade school. As soon as my parents would let me wear contacts I did and haven't gone back to glasses since. I've been wearing contacts for almost 20 years now. I hate wearing glasses. :) #8442858

Great image Joan, I also like the diagonal comp...I'm interested to see what differene the polarizer will make. #8442879

Just stopping by for the few free minutes I have. Love the color and comp in this Joan! Very interesting ideas on the polarizer. I have a polarizer and keep it on my lenses. Never thought of trying out my sunglasses.....that could be interesting to see what the result would become. #8443288

Thank you Christie! I will have to try the sunglass trick as well.

From what I've read, a polarizer only works when the sun is at a 90 degree angle to you ( so 9, 12 and 3 o'clock positions) and at any other time it actually does nothing.... so I guess it would not be a bad idea at all to just keep it on a lens. #8443311
