Beat it, Buster!!

Uploaded: February 19, 2010

Description

The male cardinal fiercely defends its breeding territory from other males. When a male sees its reflection in glass surfaces, it frequently will spend hours fighting the imaginary intruder. This cardinal returned many times, totally unconcerned about my presence as it compulsively launched itself at the mirror.

Cardinals may be beautiful but they sure are stupid. We had to cover over a window one year because of the reflection. Hmmm, maybe that's where birdbrain originated. What timing for this super shot! #8394105

AMAZING shot Jim. Never seen a real red cardinal before. In photos, but not real life. Thanks for the great moment. #8405559

Tex! You are back...and I see better than ever! I've seen cardinals do this also but was never quick enough to capture one in the throes of battle like this...perfect stop motion, his mirror reflection is just terrific - also like, very much, the tail outside of your crop...so glad to see you back, Tumbleweed! #8406865
