Obi

Uploaded: May 18, 2005

Description

1/4 sec f/10 ISO 500 65mm lens with Canon 500D diopter. We have had this ancient obi sash for a long time, lately using it as a runner on a table I pass many times each day. Thanks to this class, I began a closer look and was drawn to the repeating oval shapes, the lines around them and the texture of the weaving for my composition. The ovals looked like escaping bubbles, a happy effervescence.

Cropping to the ovals alone would be a strong abstract graphic. I wanted the two bottom elements left in to form a base for the bubbles to escape from, some counterweight, and to show the thread texture better than what is above them.
