Early morning in the Alpine Tundra

Uploaded: August 30, 2009

Description

The young elk took her time walking toward a group of us (20-30 minutes). She was very curious about us and did not seem at all afraid.

I don't know why her coat is the way it is and am hoping one of you will know. She has a good amount of fur on her neck and rear - but her side/stomach is almost bald. Seeing as how it was mid August and they were in the Alpine Tundra I hope she will be ok. She could of been shedding - but looking at the other elk, they have much more fur.

I wish you each a Blessed Sunday.

I am only guessing. As she walked through heavy brush it would help comb out the old fur. By that if she ever walked under tree branches she would loose the rest. A beautiful shot Kim. #7902720
