Blue-and-yellow Macaw
Blue-and-gold Macaw
Ara ararauna
Blue-and-yellow Macaws are popular as pets partly because of their striking appearance and ability as a talking bird; however, their large size makes accommodation problematic, and they require much more effort and knowledge from owners than more traditional pets such as dogs or cats. They are intelligent and social, so for someone who can provide for their needs, they make a good and loving companion parrot. Blue-and-yellow Macaws bond very closely to their owners.

Now, here's a real eye-catcher of a bird... a colorful and wonderfully detailed capture, Jim! I'm reminded of a friend who had (and still has) one of these fellas who, altho, noisy as heck, was as good as gold in the house...til one day her cherry wood display case had a few hunks taken out of it! Definitely better than the chew bar she provided! Great shot! (Need to get to Sea World one of these days myself - hope you had a good time there!) #7796825Cassie L. Woodlee July 31, 2009
