The Pollinator
Uploaded: July 22, 2009
Bee or fly that is the question!
I learned today that this is a Hoverfly(Syrphhidae) also known as a flower fly...They pollinate flowers and their wings are transparent, but the sun light reflects the colors of the rainbow on them. Valarie is the winner...

Beautiful bee macro Maria! Thank you also for the butterfly info. I need you to always be there for Butterfly knowledge since I just love to photograph all the pretty ones that come by but never know their names. Blessings #7771789Amanda Haddox July 23, 2009
What an outstanding macro, Maria! The deep red petals with the darkened centers remind me of flames, the way they fan out, reminiscent of the rays of a sun burst. The bright golden center of this bloom makes the more subtle colors of the Hoverfly standout against it. Incredible detail and color in this image! Thank you for the ID of the insect in the flower, it really helps those of us who are continuing to learn! #7773049Eugenio Diaz July 23, 2009
