Was lucky enough to run across this little guy on my last trip through the Smokies. I'm sure most of you who actually critique it are going to mention the tree coming out of his head, lol. Normally I would watch for that sort of thing, but I had to act pretty quick to get him and had to shoot what I could. I guess I could have photoshopped out the tree, but kinda wanted to keep this one as shot as much as I could.

Great capture, Bobby. How much zoom did you have to use to get this? #7778043Teresa H. Hunt July 24, 2009
Great shot! The colors and light are great. And since the judges liked it, I'd say don't worry about the tree. :) #7778058Bobby R. Strange July 24, 2009
Thanks all :) oh, and I was at 85mm on this one. I cropped it a bit closer than I could actually get since he's, well, a wild bear :) #7778080Debbra Bailey July 24, 2009
Bobby - this is SOOO cute! OK, I know it is a wild bear :) I love the pose, and his position between the background trees and foreground grass. I can see why the judges liked it! #7778251Dale Hardin July 24, 2009
Congratulations an the EP Bobby. Nice capture.I am a little surprised that you wanted to keep this one "as shot" because except for the foreground it appears to be very nicely processed. I really like the layered depth you achieved. Well done. #7778776

I had actually been playing aroung with some in-camera settings that day. I think I had the saturation punched up a bit, as well as a little contrast and a bit of sharpness. I was glad it came out as well as it did because the bear surprised us, so I really didn't have time to reset to defaults. #7778794Ellen H. Robertson July 25, 2009
Amazing shot, especially for one in the wild. Very well done!!!! And it shows, Congrats #7780254Christie R. Bielss July 25, 2009
85mm on a wild bear?! I'd have to say that is TOOOOOOO CLOSE to for comfort!!! Great image! #7780313Anthony L. Mancuso July 25, 2009
Great nature image Bobby, congrats on the EP, I have to agree with Christie that it does seem pretty close to a wild animal, I think I would be hightailing it out of there, EP or not! #7780675Rita K. Connell July 25, 2009
nice shot congrats on the EP, did a great job for having to act quick. #7780805Bobby R. Strange July 25, 2009
Well, the way I see it is there were 9 other people there taking his pic, so if he charged us all I had to do was outrun the other people ;) #7781465Jeff E Jensen July 26, 2009
Nice capture Bobby! I was in Yellowstone last year and had the opportunity to get up close and personal with several bears. My theory was the same, as long as I was quicker than the others, I was good. The tree doesn't bother me on this one. #7782572

I'd be so scared I'd faint ~ never mind trying to outrun the others in the group!Rita K. Connell July 26, 2009

A beautiful wildlife capture. You did well with this one and the tree did not take away from the image. Nice Work Bobby! #8393612Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
