Bobby, I think this is a beautiful image. I love the soft pink with the black and your composition is interesting - great use of rule of 3rds :) #7745306Bobby R. Strange July 16, 2009
Thanks, Debbra! I've had the pic of the flower for a few years and never did anything with it, so I figured it was about time :) #7745313Debbie E. Payne July 16, 2009
This is a lovely interpretation, Bobby. Since you work so much with textures, do you have any certain software you use or do you have a favorite online site you download your textures from? I would like to learn more about textures. Do you have any recommendations for books or tutorials that we might be able to access? #7745534Bobby R. Strange July 16, 2009
Thanks, Debbie :) A really good site for textures is cgtextures.com. They claim to be "the world's largest free texture site", and I can believe it! They have everything you could want. I've also made my own textures just by shooting walls around the area, etc.As far as tutorials, google.com is your friend, lol. It seems like no matter what tutorial it is though, they all say basically the same...layer your texture and play with the blending modes and opacities.
For me it was just a matter of taking that basic idea and modifying it here and there...erasing textures where I didn't want it...dodging and burning to bring out different parts of the texture, etc. Trial and error until I discovered techniques that worked for me :) #7745593

Oh, a note about cgtextures.com is that, if I remember correctly, they limit how many textures per day you can download. No big deal, really. Just an fyi. They are all still free.Another good site is textureking.com :) #7745599

I like the arty feel of this one Bobby - nicely done. This shot lends itself well to the effect and comes out beautifully. #7746267Jeanine M. Bailey July 16, 2009
Love the pinks and the texture!! Thanks for the info on adding texture....this is something I'd like to play around with more!! :)Bobby R. Strange July 16, 2009
Thanks all. I remember I didn't really care much for the original shot, but since I have gotten more into texturing I thought I'd try to bring something extra to it. I'm glad it worked out :) #7746297Anthony L. Mancuso July 16, 2009
