With our limited time in Victoria, BC, it came down to a choice between High Tea at the Empress or a visit to the Victoria Bug Zoo. No Contest! (Calling Bob Jensen - do you know what this is?)

This is a giant walkingstick from Papua New Guinea. I'm not an expert on the walkingsticks, so I had a friend of mine identify this for me. This one is a female and the scientific name is "Eurycantha calcarata".

Thank you Bob for enlightening me! I have a thing about wanting to identify everything I shoot up close, be it plant or animal. I appreciate your taking the time to ask your friend about this walkingstick. I wasn't able to write down the names of all these wonderful "bugs" at the zoo since there were large groups of kids clustered around the teenage docents, hammering them with questions. Figured I'd identify them later. Thanks again! (And thank your friend.) #60202

You're welcome. If you have any other bug photos from there that you need help identifying, just send me a jpeg of them.
