Description

Interesting bird... they run DOWN a tree to catch insects other birds may have missed going UP. When eating a nut, they will take a nut, jam it into a crevice in a tree and whack at it with its beak until it cracks open.

Taken with my Sigma 80-400 EX APO: 1/1000s f/8.0 at 400.0mm iso400.

And your bird photo's keep getting better and better....:)(thanks for the nice comments on my cat photo)

Great shot. I've never seen these go anywhere but on the ground. Any suggestions on what I can to get a photo of one? #234267

I just hang around the bird feeder hoping to get lucky. :)

I use plain old wild bird seed mix. They will grab a seed from the feeder, fly up into the tree and find a place to wedge the seed. Then they take whacks at it until the seed pops open. They are quick enough to catch the seed out of the air before it falls out of reach!
