Ok this is a monitor check! ... I have a little sony vaio from the dark ages. I need to know how dark/light this picture is on your monitors.

Can you see the roll of the surf way out along the edge of beach? Can you see the mist on the right near the land?

You can add any other comments too ;)

This is from a wonderful January trip I took to visit the playground of my daughter and her guy up in Oregon ... it's culture shock for this Texas native.

At this point, the sun had been painting very light shades of pink into the clouds for about two hours and now it was beginning to play with the gold. You can see hints of it on the sand dunes at the far right, center edge of the pic. The air temp is beginning to drop and the fog is anxious to take full advantage.

The couples were standing at water's edge in order to have the best view. Unfortunately we had to leave but oh what a joy to see this sight on this exceptional day of unusually clear, blue sky and very low tide.

Thanks for your help!

Oh! I forgot to mention. I helped this photo by overlaying two additional layers (copies of the original) in photoshop. I almost always sharpen my reduced pics some.

The first layer is sharpened twice with the second sharpening faded back to about 30%. This layer is about 80% opacity.

The second layer (applied last) is an auto-correction of the levels applied at 18% opacity.

I'd love to tell you the setting stats on this pic but ... antiquity is in the way at the moment and my program that stashes this info on my pc is unavailable.

Have fun!

PAM I like this ,I think if you were to lighten this you would lose the affect you were looking for the colors are great. #1213292

It looks alright to me, Pam!
P.S.Funny, I have the same doubts about my monitor. Got complains from graphic designer types who have theirs set to ultrabrite. :) #1214221

Thanks Ya'll! Ok so I'm going to assume I've found a decent way to fix the pics.

Generally the comment has been it's too dark (which I think came from not considering that I was sitting in a tooo-well sunlight lit Starbucks) ...oh well and then there was the jpg I'd played with in cymk mode and forgot to change it back to rgb before uploading it ... yeah ... that'll do weird things on the web, too!

Thanks for the sanity check!

Oh, Maya, I found your redo of Eyes in your Gallery and made a comment ... so ... now it's back out in the discussion. It's amazing what crops do to point of view!

Thanks Gloria,

I'm ready to go back in real life and sit for hours ... in the summer ... believe you me!

This was one of those moments when I looked up and couldn't believe what I was seeing ... so beautiful ... and then just for an extra thrill the camera actually mostly captured it.

have fun,

Pam, I would maybe darken it up just a smidge. It looks a little bright to me anyway. But that is just me. Anywho TTYL.

Looks good on my monitor, Pam. I like the concept, having shot a few seascapes. Florence is a great place for a photographer, what do you think of that neat bridge?

Just keep havin' fun,

Pam M June 20, 2005

Miles ... mmm ... i'm sorting through my fuzzy brain memories ... I remember one short bridge ... we have a few pics.

I know what! How about I just go back and look for the one you're talking about. In fact, we'll meet you there! (send tickets)

Florence is kind of a wierd place for us ... a sort of place where we almost connect but not quite ... it's just a place where we realllly know that we are Texans away from home.

All the same ... I keep feeling that I'm getting cheated ... that there's something very elusive about Florence that I'm not seeing ... lol ... maybe it's your bridge.

I tell you what ... I was completely blown away driving down the coast line (ok riding in the back seat) from the north towards Florence.

I don't know if every photographer has this fever ... but I keep feeling like there has got to be a way for me to tie travel and making a living with photography together.

ah well ... in the mean time ... there's more art to craft!

Thanks for the monitor input ... i'm at this moment buring off pics and etc from my external drive in the hopes that it will replace my internal drive (i have to make room for windows and it's time to backup to cd anyway). It turns out that all my OS problems were really a hard drive going bad. but NO I didn't lose anything because it was all backedup on my external.

... if it doesn't work out ... well ... I really will always be sharing with my husband... all the time!

Anyway the monitor I did this ck for may be just part of a large lavender paperweight (it's an old sony vaio).

When I told my daughter (the one who's not a computer person) that I might have to share pc's with my husband, she said "eewww that would be like sharing a toothbrush for ya'll!"

Exactly.

oops another cd done ... gotta start another ... aren't you relieved ;)

have fun,

some how this image seems to be slightly tilted to the right, maybe its my eyes #1496854

Dan McConoughey September 15, 2005

Pam, I love the mood of this image, but I have to agree with Stan it does appear to slope to the right. The color, low tide reflection the depth all come together great. The people really add to the mood and feel of this image. I wouldn't change anything as far as light it's perfect the way it is. #1842829

Pam M September 18, 2005

Oh man ... sorry to be so slow to reply. I will put a guide on it when I review the pic and double check it's balance. I'm having a few computer challenges ... and well let's just say it's easy to get on the net ... not so easy to play with my old pics etc. Oh they're all there ... I just have to remember to drag my external drives around with me between my daughter's pc and my husband's. right now they're across the living room attached to my husband's pc while I seem to be attached to my daughter's pc ... which I had just simply wandered over to turn off before I drop asleep ... but you know how it goes with addictions! ... got to just check one or two more. but obviously i'm in no shape to be writing intelligence ... so i'm not writing on anybody else's pic tonight :-D

thanks for your input!

have fun,

Pam M September 19, 2005

ok I'm going to call it level ... and i'll probably have to try to put the second pic in a few times ... but ... we'll see. #1855066

Pam M September 19, 2005

hmm ok ... i'm amazed and amused ... I just entered the pic's ID# since I already had loaded it up into my list of pics (but not into my gallery) and wa-la! second picture in the thread! in other words, I didn't go through the whole find the pic again on my hard drive and upload it again routine.

have fun,
