Description

The day arrived mostly cloudy, and progressed to deliver a lot of rain in the afternoon. I was sitting in the Bright Angel Lodge at the Grand Canyon, looking outside at the rain and considering trying to drive a few hundred miles to get out from under the storm, when a few bright patches appeared over the Canyon.

By the time I packed up and made it back to my car, there were several holes in the cloud cover, sending shafts of light onto individual mesa. The storm continued to break, and at the very end the sun managed to shine under the clouds to send orange light that reflected down into the canyon as well.

I accidentally left my graduated neutral density filters in the car, and there was no time to walk the 50 feet back to get them. I was shooting this camera on a tripod with a wide angle lens, while picking out details with a 70-200mm on my40D (handheld). I don't yet own any other filters that fit the 82mm diameter of this lens. This is three exposures combined in Phot
