Waimea Bay Surf

Uploaded: March 13, 2005

Description

aperture: F/10, shutter: 1/800, lens: 100-400mm, location: Waimea Bay, time of day: 12:41pm, ISO 400, Focal Length: 275.0mm, No Flash, Metering Mode: Pattern. There was over 40ft surf on this day and I managed to look over my shoulder to find this guy swimming up the channel. I think it shows how powerful these waves really are.

this is lovely...the person in the picture really gives the shot perspective...what a monster wave #224576

The size of the wave is definitely shown here. But what I really like is how you have desaturated some of the color of the sea. It gives the entire photo a really nice look. Great job. #1169632

I like the desaturation too - wonderful perspective. I've often wondered how in the world someone could take on one of these huge waves -it would terrify me!

Thanks for all the nice comments. It was so awsome to see these guys take on 30 to 40ft waves. The waves are so big you can fit three to four surfers on a single wave.

Thanks again

Laura,

I used Photo Shop CS and went to the Image tab, clicked adjustments, Hue/Saturation and lowered it a little. The day was really over cast so the original picture did not turn out very well. Photo Shop saved it! I have learned a few more tricks since then and I think I can go back and re adjust it to make it look sharper.

Thank you for the comments
