Winter Indian Pipe

Uploaded: March 08, 2005

Description

Ever wonder what happens to Indian Pipe in the winter? No? Me neither. But when I spotted this little cluster, looking like tiny pumpkins in the snow, I had to find out from my botany-teaching neighbor what they were. Normally buried under the snow, these were near a spring. Adirondacks, NY. F/4.4; 1/125 sec. (See my gallery for summer version: "Ghost Flower")
