Brilliant Conrad! Great pov and dof, brilliant work with the lighting and exposure. Bravo. #1057180

Thanks, Chris. They say you should take pictures of things you love to get the best results. Chess was my first love. I don't have a lot of good spots for photography either in or out of my house, but I've had some good results by this window in the morning sun, so I tried to visualize how a backlit chess set would look there. This is about what I had preconceived, and I was pretty happy with the result. I used a small aperture for the DOF. #6945380

WOW... love the shadow and depth the light gives Conrad! And it's true, when it's a subject you love, you understand how best to portray it in a lens! You've done a wonderful job on this! #6949682

You, Conrad, never cease to amaze me. You have really done some excellent B&W work and this is another image that is well above and beyond the norm I could write a full page critique of what is good about this image....but I will just say well done!!!!! #6949979

Thanks, Christine and Lonnie. I'm glad you both liked this image. It's good to end on a high note, since this will unfortunately be my last new digital image for a while. I just had a catastrophe with my camera. Ironically I had recently bought a case to protect it and thought I had the camera strap around my neck when it was only the case strap, and the camera dropped to the pavement when I let go of it, shattering the lens. I'm sending it back to Nikon to see what they can do. I'm hoping the body is okay but won't know that either until I get a lens back to try on it. I'm wondering if Nikon is a jinx for me since I've had the Canon AE1 for 20 years with no mishaps but had a Nikon compact previous to that which I lost when I accidentally left it on the roof of my car and then drove off. When I realized what had happened, I went back later that day to search for it, but it was gone. Well, I'll treat this as a temporary roadblock until I can start shooting again. #6950861

Conrad, this is superb! Love the play with light & shadows and the pov.

Hope your camera is repaired soon. #6954383

Thanks for your nice comments, Marisol.
The accident with the camera was surreal, like it was happening to somebody else. Have my fingers crossed for minimal damage and quick repair. #6954789

Ah yes. In the night, they wait. WHO WILL MAKE THE FIRST MOVE???!!! The battle begins!

I love the shadows the best Conrad. They add such amazing drama to this image. Great job! -Laura #7248744

Thanks, Laura. Chess was my first love, and I can't stop taking pictures of my sets. :) This is my basic Dreuke playing set, which I've had for a long time, but it's still one of my favorites. As you said, I liked the drama the shadows added to the scene. #7248889
