Fountain of Youth

Uploaded: October 15, 2008

Description

This wonderful figure is part of the bronze “Fountain of Youth,” situated right in the middle of the main shopping street (Kaiserstrasse) of Karlsruhe, Germany. It was created by Karl-Henning Seemann between 1983 and 1985 and installed the following year, and it consists of a tower of older people diving into the fountain and rising out young again.

There is also a frisky little lamb bounding out of the water. Very appropriate, since the intersecting street is Lammstrasse (Lamb Street). In fact, the fountain is sometimes called the “Fountain of the Lamb,” as well as “Rejuvenation.” Whatever name it goes by, however, this photo always makes me smile when I look at it. Maybe I should have dipped my sore, arthritic feet in it while I was there to see what happened!

Thanks so much, Nancy. This figure just makes me feel so good. I hope it has the same effect on everybody who sees it. She just seems so happy, as if all her pains and troubles had been washed away. #6604882

Thanks a lot Courtenay. I felt really out of touch while we were in Germany and had no web access except the Internet cafe a couple of blocks away. Really appreciate your support and encouragement! #6606075

Thanks you very much, Michael. I just love this picture. It makes me smile every time I see it.

I'm glad you enjoy the write-ups too. I feel I'm learning so much as I research things I saw and wanted to know about.

Didn't know the name of this fountain, for instance, when I saw it. Fortunately, I took a another photo of the bronze plate in the street beside it that gave the artist's name. Then I googled his name with other key words to find out more. #6704081
