Monastery Pews

Uploaded: October 06, 2008

Description

Pews in the Monk’s Chapel at Maulbronn Monastery, not far from Karlsruhe, Germany. The monastery was built in 1147, and these seats, which accommodate 92, were added in 1450. They lay brothers – who were not members of the nobility as the monks were, did not speak Latin, and performed the monastery’s manual labor – worshipped on the other side of the nave, separated by from the monks by a stone choir screen.

Thanks very much, John. I like this one a lot -- though for some reason it came out rather grainy when I posted it. When I printed it on photo paper, it looked great. If someone could explain this, I'd really appreciate it. #6640286

Jean: the graininess probably has to do with the camera sensor /resolution + processing engine and how it handles shadows/ highlights. Depending on size of print you would see the graininess on paper, too. In a small 4x6 to 8x10 print it won't be visible. #6643535

Thanks, John. I appreciate the information. #6644898
