I really love the light coming through in this and the criss cross of the leaves Dawn. If I were to make suggestion I guess it would be to crop off some of the right if you could get a good balance. It seems the complimentary darker leaves should take up less space in the frame than the lighter ones (in theory). I usually don't suggest crops because I think they require balancing everything to our own personal tastes but it's just a suggestion for something to try. I do like this alot though just the way it is and that extra space does seem to give depth into the unknow. #275767

Wow, Kristi, constructive criticism is really helpful and I appreciate it. Can you tell me more about the theory you are talking about? Thanks!

Hi Dawn It's just the "thirds" rule. The lighter set and the crossing darker set are near equal. However this has a lot of visual tension and things more centered will relieve some of that tension. It's really hard to say whether a crop would be better or not. Just use your own intuition as to what it looks like if your try cropping it. Some off of the left instead of the right might work as well. In using my monitor to block some off the left, I notice that leaves the depth into the darker space and gives a pretty good balance. #1572319

Hi Kristi,

I've never used the rule of thirds used in relation to tones or lighting. Thanks for the information. I'll experiment with it.

This is awesome, Dawn!!! The simple lines formed by the leaves, the shadows and the light and the delicate composition make it beautifully Japanese. #2211561
