ewer'n scarf blocks
Uploaded: January 17, 2003
effect added in psp7...i brightened the colors but I like the subtlety of this version better...subtlety is a bizarre-lookin' word or what?!

Nice shot! Love the effect! #19207Cathy Kuczynski May 26, 2019
Cool effects...love the vase!Cees F. De With May 26, 2019
It's a great still life because of the combination of the vase and the used colours! I know PS can do a lot....and it ends up with great effects most of the times (as here), but why PS?? IMO it was already great.... #43152Conrad L. Conero May 26, 2019
Your photography's beautiful, Lianne. I probably would have liked this as well without the effects.Lianne E. Cook May 26, 2019
cool, I love this feedback.my intent was to take a simple shot of the ewer and scarf, I got what I wanted but, I didn't...Over the next few days I kept looking at it and it finally dawned on me, so I added the psp effect.
Here's the original...

Lianne, I agree with Cees and Conrad. It's better without the PS. PS is so much fun and I myself am guilty of over using it also. #43190Cees F. De With May 26, 2019
Thanks for posting the original as well Lianne and IMO this proves my point: the original is far better.....!Carolyn M. Fletcher May 26, 2019
I love both of them, but also prefer the original. #43216Conrad L. Conero May 26, 2019
I'm probably an old-fashioned purist who's taking a long time to adjust to the new technology. Altering the image still seems a little sacrilegious to me. But I guess they must have said the same thing when b&w negatives began to be manipulated in the darkroom.Lianne E. Cook May 26, 2019
...you've no idea how much you all have helped me realize what was missing in my photography - ME! Was beginning to feel like an obsession, something I HAD to do instead of something I LOVE to do...sorry, i'm not nuts, just on a midlife journey of self-rediscovery and you guys provided a clue -- Thank you SO much!! #43237Conrad L. Lianne, I just recently started making photographs and lots of people told me to use PS to remove that leave or this spot or change it all over or.....etc.Cathy M. Gromball May 26, 2019
Okay, Lianne, I've looked and looked at both images. I love them both, but I think because I saw the one with the effects first, it grew on me, and when I look at the original, it looks naked! I guess maybe because I'm still experimenting, too! So, I love both and let's leave it at that!Cathy :) #43281

Very Nice still life with or without PS. I think the most important point in any art is "to creat". We use different tools & equipment to creat a good photograph. If you were to shoot at dawn or dusk or set slow shutter speeds to capture the cotton candy effect of a waterfall you have to use a tripod. We use different filters to enhance our photos etc. Its just that Photo editing programs are out of the camera technique and its relatively new. The main purpose is to creat good art, good photograph.Carol Sherman May 26, 2019
Lianne, once again a spectacular still life!!! I personally think there is room for both.As a still life your original is superb and well executed.
As an 'art piece' the 1st one is needed in other genre like magazines, books, billboards, advertising etc.etc.

One's a piece of art and the other is a superb still life photo! Either way you win, Lianne! #43589Shelley Sanders May 26, 2019
I like the effects added, real creative! #45457Cathy Kuczynski May 26, 2019
I must say the one with the effects caught my eye...that is why I commented on it BUT now that you showed us what it was originaly ...I like it better without effects. There is a simpicity to it that gives a warm feeling. I agree that the other "art" form might be better used in a magazine but I would want the original hanging on my wall!Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
