oil pumping horses in signal hill california. in the early 1900's oil was discovered in this town and not long after the whole city's landscape was covered with oil drilling towers. today just a moderate amount of these oil drilling horses remain upon this landscape,pumping up the last vestiges of black gold.

This image brings back memories of seeing many of these oil pumps in So. Calif. when I was growing up. They always reminded me of giant grasshoppers. I guess there aren't too many of them left. #1067923
