A neo-purist like you manipulating a photograph? Say it isn't so! Bob will be so disappointed in you for violating the journalistic integrity (as defined by Dan Rather and CBS News)that must always be maintained in photography! #1058941

Bob Fehringer January 23, 2005

I don't think Protacio ever said he was a journalist. So he is free do do whatever he desires as far as maniputaion is concerned.

I also don't think he needs to resort to manipulation to produce a good image, like so many must.

Aren't we all allowed to play and have fun without some wannabe attempting to belittle the work.

BTW, never did like Warhal, but many did and still do.

Go Pro and continue to have fun.

Yeap, I don't recall Protacio saying he was a journalist either, or being a purist for that matter. It's hard to improve on an original but at least Protacio is having fun.

*Remember what we were talking about a few days ago bro...this is one of those times.*

Can you explain the technique you used?

Linda Proctor January 23, 2005

Hey this is cool I would like to know technique to.Maybe do a series in different colors ? #1059063

John P. Roberts, Jr. January 24, 2005

It's nice to see you branching out, Protacio. I'm not a Warhol fan, but I enjoy Polaroid transfers. You should check out Jill Battaglia's gallery - she's great at this.

And Bob, all the many people at BP that you've slammed for manipulating their images, I guess they were they all journalists? You defend Protacio's right to be "free to do whatever he desires as far as manipulation is concerned" and to "play and have fun" (and rightfully so), yet you've criticized and belittled so many others at BP with for doing exactly the same thing! Your arrogance is exceeded only by your duplicity. #1059441

Personally, I don't use manipulation(I rather have a bad image that I took that a good one that I made)...but what others want to do more power to them. What bothers me is that so many people rely on Photoshop to make a good image and then call themselves great photographers. But let's not have this conversation again for the 4th time.

Wow…intreresting situation.

As any decent Neo-purist (I love that word…I’ll include it in my statement)..what was I saying?...oh. As any decent neo-purist, this image was created by using nothing but a camera…and a stylus pen (that’s the “neo” part I guess).

Why?
Well…I admire Warhol’s work. It is not his birthday, nor his death anniversary, it’s just that I love Pop Art and wanted to experiment using this technique on Polaroid’s, so I put the ingredients in a can, mix the thing a little bit and this is what came out.

Opposite to Warhol’s work this is a one of kind piece, it cannot be produced in a large series, just one at a time. Also opposite to Warhol’s art work, this one measure 3 x 3 inches so is not even close to what he produced in his factory.

As a frustrated neo-purist I have to use my scanner but not for massive reproduction purposes, just to share a picture with some friends I have in BetterPhoto.

I’m not a journalist, and I think Bob already knows how far I would dare to go about photography manipulation, but that is not the issue here.

I’m an artist, who this time has decided to take a careful image with a SX-70, looking for a background to appeal the subject, getting the right exposure, and work on the surface of the image to get this impressionistic effect on an already famous subject, but with a different technique. I have looked around for an ordinary subject, something we all see but never considered attractive, or appealing.

I was looking to make one, but I liked it so much that I’m considering going all the way to make the 32 that Andy did.

Thanks W. for your comments, I’ll check on Rather every once and a while to see how things are going, but I’m not his fan anyway.

Thanks Bob for your lines. When I saw the print developed I hesitated about manipulating. It looked great that way, but I had that idea already in my mind.

Sis…I know what you mean, LOL…I’ll write you about this latter…got to go to pick up the girls at school.

Linda….here’s another one.

Thanks John…I’ll do a search on that artist…I appreciate it.

Wow! You've created controvercy... : ) I like this! Simple subject, great manipulation. I didn't know that so many people were against having more or different artistic experiences in photography. I always was one that thought that when you are an artist you are free to express yourself in any medium you want, however you want. People should take from it if they can and if they don't get it walk away knowing you've possibly learned something. I think this is great! : ) I'm jelous and wish I had some sun to start doing some more but I have been playing with my Holga and my photo transfers. Thank you for the tribute.. . I gave the information but you have power to do with whatever you want, it is within you ... but most of all enjoy it! Tara #1060721

I have two ways where you can see my Holga shots. I have a website w/ another portfolio on usefilm.com I think all you have to do is search for my name : Tara Gullett and also I'm trying sell some items made with some of my transfers since friends have really liked the photos and so that is at cafepress.com/fotofacination or the store name is foto facination. : ) It's lots of fun... plus I just received a big set of filters direct from Hong Kong made for it. Can't wait to shoot more but I should wait until my bronchitis is gone. Tara #1060893

I like it protacio! Very cool. Is this a real poloroid transfer? If so it's one of the ones I like best out of all I've seen. I like it better than Andy's. I'm not a Warhol fan. More of a Norman Rockwell fan! Which I think is interesting because it shows in both of our work. I can appreciate your view of the world Protacio, and find it great that you've taken time to appreciate mine at times. Cool!

As for all the controversy, there is none. People who are purists are purists, people who aren't, aren't. I call myself a "digital artist" to avoid the controversy. I take lots of fine photos and I manipulate lots of fine photos. And I enjoy what I create. If somebody else has a problem with it I figure they probably need some sort of professional evaluation because WHO CARES WHAT ANYBODY chooses to do? When purists tell me I'm relying on photoshop and not learning to use my camera I have to laugh my butt off. I read hours every week about how to improve my technique in the camera--not photoshop. I practice, practice, practice what I learn. I do rely on the digital darkroom somewhat, because I have a digital camera and I enjoy creating new pieces from the old. It's the part I like best.

Well, it's been fun folks! Great job Protacio!

Many thanks Karma. I appreciate your message. Your work is a great example of digital artistry where the tools are used with moderation and good taste. My small input about your images clearly shows that I’m not against manipulations. It is good to have around here. Congratulations on your new 20D.

Thanks D. J. for writing.

Tara…what a fun place you got in café press!!! I’ll buy some of that stuff one of these days. Hope you get well soon. Take care.

Oh, so here's where you have fun and the rest of us have to compliment each other!
Well, I have nothing to say on the subject but I love to join the discussion anyway.
I just thought that it's Warhol who's cool, not the damn can of soup. #1067303
